The Fiertzeside is a kind of old century salon, a place where we discuss a possible vision for the future. The starting point for the conversation is grassroots action - not the kind which is audible and visible, placards and chants, but the kind that quietly makes a change, nurturing some small place in the world to make it more beautiful. Think gorilla gardening in the dead of night.
I call these activists quiet revolutionaries and to get a flavour of who they are, I recommend starting your exploration of The Fiertzeside by reading some of their stories in Food Security and Food Sovereignty.
Each post is part of a theme which generally lasts for eight weeks. You will find each theme on the home page. To date, these are:
Food Security and Food Sovereignty
What is it with humans and trees?
Thinking a Different Way to Be
In Pursuit of Beauty
Additionally, the Community Area offers an introduction to other readers, their recommendations, and a summary of their words at the end of each series.
Welcome and please feel free to hop into the conversation!
P.S. At the beginning of May 2024, I decided not to continue my weekly posts on The Fiertzeside. This newsletter will remain here as the stories need to be heard and shared to inspire hope for a more beautiful world. I will also remain an active Substack reader and will post from time to time in Notes. There I will keep my connection with this extraordinary community and will share details of a regenerative garden project I am working on in Portugal. Thank you to everyone for their support and if you like what you see here, it may be more value to ‘follow’ me than to subscribe to the newsletter.
